Ontario’s police services have been a focus for proposed cost-cutting measures, with budgets across the province being frozen or reduced in recent years. Though it is important for police services to be funded in a way that drives value for taxpayers, government cuts that reduce the number of police service personnel available to serve communities is short-sighted and contrary to the mission of public safety.

The United Kingdom currently faces a rise in violent crime after governments across the country privatized some police service roles and reduced budgets, resulting in fewer officers on the streets.

Communities stand with police officers as family. When the police are underfunded, they cannot do their jobs effectively.

We need to stand up for our police services to ensure that municipalities’ efforts to balance the books don’t come at the expense of police services’ ability to serve their communities.
